Rad Reading February

For the month of February, I read two books. I read the second and third books of the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I am going to do my rad reading on the third book, Percy Jackson and the Olympians; The Titan’s Curse, by Rick Riordan. This book is about Percy, a half-blood, who abruptly one day receives a distress call from his saytr friend, Grover. Percy is sent on a quest accompanied by his friends to go see what is troubling Grover; two half-bloods. The lord Kronos has set up an evil scheme, and the two young half-bloods are his bait.

I recommend this book because of many things. It’s action-packed, and full of surprises and twists. This book has a very fun spin on Greek mythology, and full of adventures. For example, Percy and his friends meet Apollo, the sun god, and they ride in his sun bus around the world! This is why I recommend this book.

My favorite character in this book was Percy. Percy was brave, bold, smart, and witty. But most of all a team player, and compassionate. For example, “As anxious as I felt about Annabeth—all I wanted to do was search for her—I couldn’t help feeling sorry for the di Angelos. I remembered what it was like for me when I first learned I was a demigod.” This quote shows Percy’s compassion, and understanding for the poor di Angelos. He wants to comfort them, but also wants to search for his friend, who he also cares a lot about. This is why Percy was my favorite character.

My favorite quote from the story was, “Looking up in the sky, I saw that the stars were brighter. They made a pattern I had never noticed before – a gleaming constellation that looked a lot like a girl’s figure – a girl with a bow, running under the stars.” This was my favorite quote because it reminded me of one of my cousin’s who died. It made me think of all of the memories I’ve had with him, and appreciate the small things I still have from him still him today.

Marine Biology 💕🐳🐠🪸👩‍🔬

If I could have any job in the entire world, it would be a marine biologist. I would love to have this job for many reasons. First of all, I love ocean, and all the creatures that live in it. Being a marine biologist, I would be able to work in the oceans, and see all the marine life and more. Secondly, this would be really cool because I would possibly travel often to different bodies of water to study, which would also broaden my experiences and knowledge. I’ve always loved science, and all the intricate details that come together to form a working ecosystem, so this would definitely expand my understanding on the subject too. Lastly, being a marine biologist would mean being able to help restore and protect these important species and their ecosystems, which would make me feel good about myself, knowing I’m helping the Earth change for the better 💕🐳🐠🪸.

Rad Reading February

For the month of February, I read the book Percy Jackson and the Olympians; the Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan. This story is about a boy named Percy, who has trouble follow him wherever he goes. Mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus nearly seem to be coming straight out of his book pages. Percy soon realizes that he is not part of the mortal world, but part of the immortal world. Percy heads off to a special camp for the summer, and soon learns that he has just ten to find and return Zeus’s master bolt, and bring Mount Olympus to peace.

I would recommend this book highly, because it’s packed full of amazing adventures, and has a fun take on Greek mythological stories. For example, Percy and his friends go on a quest that takes them from Santa Monica, to even Las Vegas, and Manhattan. Overall, this book is awesome that you should try reading!

My favorite character from this book was Annabeth. She was my favorite character because she reminds me a lot of myself. She is very wise, to the point, and seriously focused on keeping Percy on track. For example, she says, “‘I’ve been waiting a long time for a quest, seaweed brain,’ she said. ‘Athena is no fan of Poseidon, but if you’re going to save the world, I’m the best person to keep you from messing up.’” This quotes shows her diligence, and strength, but also her patience and determination to protect Percy, and while teaching him a lesson.

My favorite quote from this book was, “Go on with what your heart tells you, or you will lose all.” This quotes is very important, because not only was it important in the book, but in life too. Going with your heart and instincts, is always a good choice, if you have good intentions for the right reasons. For these reasons that is my favorite quote.

Sneaky Invisibility

I have become invisible for twenty-four hours! There are many fun things I would do! First off, my parents wouldn’t see me, and they’d think I’m at school. But I wouldn’t be…I would go shopping wherever I wanted and maybe steal something because no could see me do it. I would go to the Spectrum. That would work out pretty well for me because I don’t have very much of my own money to spend 🤦🏼‍♀️. Secondly, I would pack my stuff and hop on a plane. I’d find an empty seat, so I wouldn’t have to pay. I would take some snacks off of the plane too. Lastly, after arriving in the Bahamas, I’d sneak into a fancy hotel, and get my own room, again, without paying! Before my twenty-four hours would be up, I’d steal one last thing. A warm, tasty meal. I’d wake up the next day unfortunately visible again, but at least I’m still in the Bahamas!

Lonely Tropical Island

Life on my abandoned island is fun, but sometimes lonely. Last year, I was on vacation in Maui with my family, and we were swimming in the ocean. I got swept away and last thing I remembered was waking up on the shore of an uninhabited island. My routine on this island goes something like this: First off, I wake up in my makeshift tent made out of palm leaves, bark, and other things I have found on the island. After waking up, I find something to eat like fruit that grows on the island. Next I rinse off in the ocean, and then put on some clothes. For a bit, I wander around the island with my pet pig that I found roaming the island when I first arrived. For lunch, I have fish and fruit, or something else that I catch. After lunch, I usually swim for a bit, and play with my pet pig. I normally get very bored because I’m the only person who lives here. When dinner rolls around I have whatever I first come across, and then go to bed. Occasionally I’ll find myself searching for other life, but I’m always unsuccessful. For some weird reason, I can’t cross I certain point in the ocean. It’s kind of like a barrier. I’m still trying to figure that out. But for now that is my life on this deserted island.

Rad Reading January

This month, I read A Night Divided by Jennifer Nielsen. This story is about a girl named Gerta, and with the sudden rise of the Berlin Wall, she finds her family divided. She, her mother, and her oldest brother Fritz are on the east side of the wall. Her father and other brother Dominic are stuck in the west, and unable to return home to the east. Even though she knows watching the wall is dangerous, she can’t help watching across to the other side wondering if she could ever be there. When she one day spots her father doing a peculiar dance, she draws to dangerous conclusions. She then has to take the risk, but try not to be caught, or she’ll and up very bad.

I would recommend this book because it really keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The book slowly reveals more and more clues, and it all comes together like a puzzle in the end. For example, when her father does a certain dance, repeatedly, she thinks that it means something different. But as she starts to realize and find hints, it slowly comes together.

My favorite character from this book was Gerta. Gerta was many things, but most of all she was smart. For example, “We went as carefully as spies through dark back alleys, walkways to narrow to be used as roads, and even through unlocked doors of other peoples apartment buildings.” She shows that she is brave and smart, and doesn’t just take the easy escape. This is why I like Gerta.

My favorite quote from the book was, “Courage isn’t knowing you can do something; it’s only being willing to try.” This shows that you don’t have to be 100% sure to courageous, you just have to want to try. You can be brave, as long as you are willing to try something. You don’t always have to succeed.

Fascinating Quotes

Today, I’m choosing to write about a few of my favorite quotes. These are quotes I have found over the past few years, and have really stuck. They help me remember what really matters.

“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop,” Mother Teresa. I really like this quote because even if your kind actions go unnoticed, or your achievements aren’t spoken, that doesn’t mean that they don’t count. Every tiny thing that you do does make a difference, you might just not be seeing the effects of it. Don’t give up so fast, just keep doing the good you’re doing, and know it’s appreciated in some way.

Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you’ll be criticized anyway,” Eleanor Roosevelt. This quote really resonates with me because not everybody is going to agree with what you think is right, or what you want to do. As long as you trust yourself, and know in your heart that it’s right, don’t let anyone get to you. Your feelings matter, and shouldn’t be influenced by other people’s.

Happiness is Always Somewhere…

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” -Albus Dumbledore. This quote from Harry Potter resonates with me because I always find happiness even when it’s hard, and make people smile. Whenever I find myself in a hard situation, I try not to focus on that, instead, I think of the things that make me happy. Dumbledore is saying that there’s never not happiness, it’s whether you’re choosing to see it or not. Everybody has at least one thing that makes them feel good, smile, or bring them joy. Whenever you’re feeling down, or going through something, just remember what that thing is. Or, you can be that light for someone else too. If you see someone else feeling down, you can always be kind and bring a smile to their face, and help them remember that light. 💡 💕

My Inspirational Hero

Someone that I admire is Taylor Swift. I don’t admire her because I’m a die hard Taylor Swift fan, but because of all her hard work and positivity she put in to get where she is today. First off, I admire her because this was her dream from a very young age, and she never quit. This is very inspiring and encourages me to follow my dreams. Secondly, she isn’t a singer/song writer because she wanted to be rich and famous, but because she wanted to do it for herself, and not for others because of influence. This is something that sticks in my mind because you should only do something if YOU want to do it, not because other people want you to. You should do what makes you happy. Lastly, I look up to her because of her self confidence. She doesn’t worry about what other people think, and doesn’t let it get to her. Overall, I think she is an amazing role model we should all learn from.

Reflection

Instead of making a long list of New Year’s resolutions, and forgetting about them thirty seconds later, I am going to focus on one word for 2024. That one word is reflect.

I don’t normally take reflect upon about how I feel, or what happened that day or week. I would look to be able journal and write down the good, the bad, and the ugly that happens to me, so I can remember, or let go of those things. When I do, it calms me, and makes me feel better. It also makes me feel more accomplished and efficient. Not only would I like to reflect on my life, but also reflect on quotes, and focus on one a week. I want to pick a quote each week that sticks out to me, something I can connect to, and try and find a way to use that advice in my day to day life.

I would also like to reflect on things that I just brush by, or don’t give enough thought, that has meaning. Like music. I hear music all the time, everyday. My mom plays music in the car, I hear music on my tv, I listen to it at dance, and so on. But sometimes the music has a deeper meaning and a lesson to learn to apply to life.

Reflect is the one word I will be focusing on in 2024! Happy new year!
